logoVolunteer Opportunities is a national charity with localised branches that provide advice, information and support to anyone who has been bereaved (children, young people and adults), whenever or however the death occurred. The service is provided by trained, experienced volunteers, and is confidential and free.

Volunteers are vital to the ongoing services and support that Cruse provides and are very much welcomed and appreciated. Below you will find a list of some of the volunteering roles we currently have available. We are interested to hear from anybody wanting to support our work and are happy to create bespoke roles to suit an individual’s skills experience and availability.

logoBereavement Volunteers

No qualifications are required to become a bereavement volunteer at Cruse. All volunteers, whatever their level of experience, must first complete the externally accredited Foundation Course - Awareness in Bereavement Care (ABC).

The next Richmond ABC course starts on Saturday 1st March 2014.

Course dates:

• March 1st, 8th, 22nd and 29th
• April 5th, and 12th
• May 17th
• June 7th

Time: 9.30am – 5.30pm

logoNon Client Facing Roles

logoVolunteer Supervisors

As a result of growth within the branch we are seeking additional experienced and trainee supervisors to support groups of 4-5 Bereavement volunteers.

Supervision for volunteers usually takes place monthly in 2 hour sessions for groups and 1 hour sessions on a 1-1 basis, within the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. There might also be a need to provide some ad hoc support for volunteers in between supervision sessions. The branch provides supervision and support for all branch supervisors in a 2 hour monthly supervision group.

logoMarketing and PR Lead

A Marketing/PR Volunteer(s) are sought to help raise the profile of our work with bereaved people amongst service provider’s, clients and potential volunteers. This role could be undertaken by a single volunteers or a team of volunteers working in collaboration.

Tasks that need to be completed include

  • Develop to a marketing strategy for Cruse Richmond upon Thames to ensure that publicity for the Branch is appropriate and on-going
  • Work with the wider executive team to develop and implement Cruse Bereavement Care’s marketing campaigns
  • Make contact and form positive relationships with local media
  • Review and revise the range of available leaflets
  • Make recommendations for distribution and circulation of material including negotiating with external organisations for display
  • Deliver leaflets locally

logoFundraising & Resources roles

Support is required to explore and respond to funding opportunities that enable the Cruse branch to continue to deliver its aims. This may include

  • Writing and submitting funding applications on behalf of the Cruse Richmond branch and researching potential funding opportunities
  • Exploring ways in which individuals can make donations
  • Building relationships with corporate partners to sources goods and services that support the work of the branch
  • Creating and organising fundraising events

We are interested in hearing from anybody who would like to take on any or this entire role.

logoOutreach Workers

The branch is looking for volunteers to help raise awareness of the work of Cruse amongst service providers and in the community especially amongst ethnic minorities and in those areas that are traditionally hard to reach. Role will include

  • Building relationships with community organizations and service providers
  • Giving presentation workshops to schools, doctors, etc
